Friends of Chernobyl's Children - Black Country FOCC

26th April 1986, saw the nuclear power plant at Chernobyl in Northern Ukraine explode & subsequently blanket Belarus with radioactive contamination. FOCC Black Country is a registered charity in England providing respite care for disadvantaged children from the contaminated areas of Belarus following this nuclear catastrophe.

Area: The Black Country is situated in the industrial heartlands of the West Midlands conurbation approximately 8 miles from Birmingham. Our central position in the country gives us access to a wide range of amenities, most of which the children in our groups have sampled.

General background: FOCC Black Country was set up in late 2001, with our first visit of 12 children from Mogilev taking place in June 2002. In 2007, we continued our work with a second group of children, again from Mogilev.

We are always glad to hear from anyone who may wish to become involved as a Host family, Helper, Fundraiser or Sponsor. We are currently seeking new Host families for our 2012 visit, so if you are at all interested, please contact us through the Group Co-ordinator.
