The Friends of Chernobyl's Children (GB) was established in 2004/5 as the headquarters unit for the charity. Its purpose is to provide central services, support and organisation for the affiliated local groups, which are all independent registered charities, and to support the founder and Chief Executive, Olwyn Keogh, in the running and future development of the charity.

All of the affilliated groups are represented on the Governing Body of the Friends of Chernobyl's Children (GB). The Governing Body sets the standards and procedures for the local groups, manages the offices of the charity in Belarus, arranges the transport for the visiting children and is responsible for liaison with the Government and charitable organisations in Belarus.
