The group is based in the village of Burley, Hampshire, in the heart of the New Forest. This
large area of woodland, open heath and grassy lawns, gives the children a chance to enjoy clean air and
plenty of outdoor activities.
In 2005, we welcomed our first group of 10 children from Mogilev. The following year our group
expanded to twelve. Pale and lethargic when they arrived, the children quickly grew in confidence and were
soon energetic and rosy-cheeked.
They enjoyed picnics in the local area, including Mill Lawn (see photo), which is just a 15 minute walk from the Church Room in Burley,
where the group met each morning. Ponies and cattle wandering freely were a fascination to them.
The children took horse-riding lessons and visited local beaches - many of
them had never seen the sea before, so this was a particular thrill for them. Castles, zoos and a theme park
were among the other attractions. They also had music, dance and art sessions, as well as visits to the
dentist and optician.
By the time they returned home, each child was visibly healthier and more lively, and all were
looking forward to their return the following summer.
