The South Cambridgeshire group had a spectacular 1st visit from our 16 children in
2006.
Our 2010 Visit
Well the penultimate visit of this group of children is over, what a visit it was! Herein lies a story of
great human kindness, enjoy! Melbourn Baptist Church again acted as 'base-camp' and opened up their lovely church
for us. The children visited Wicksteed Park who provided free parking, London to see The Lion King, a day at
Centre Parcs which was paid for by the fantastic fund-raising efforts of Mr John Drayton & friends, they swum
at MC Sport, the Inner Wheel or Bishop's Stortford provided a lovely day at Paradise Wildlife Park followed by a
river trip in Cambridge layed on by the Cambridge Stroke Centre & Cambridge Cancer Care who also were kind
enough to provide a mini-bus and our hero of the hour, Peter the bus driver!
Mr Ken Charles organised a swim at Royston Leisure pool and Meldreth Manor arranged for horse-riding (sadly, the
day was too hot but thank you anyway Meldreth!). The children learnt songs with Janet Orrell to prepare for
their final concert and all children visited John Shenton the dentist & Howes of Royston, the opticians, three
children were given much needed glasses, thank you Howes. Yet another super day at Shepreth Wildlife Park, skiing
at Bassingbourn and a day trip to Chessington as well as two trips to the sea-side, complete with fish & chips.
A day out in Cambridge including punting arranged by Tom Walston, a host dad and a spectacular day at the TA centre
in Cambridge organised by Stuart Smart brought the programme to a close. The final day was a day at Melbourn
Baptist where John Lewis came to visit and presented each child with a watch that will surely be
treasured.
So many people work hard to make these dreams come true, we will never turn away offers of help, however large or
small, it all helps to build the dream.
Thank you, to all who have supported the visit, please get in touch to become part of this
very special programme.
